The Road Home helps Louisiana residents affected by Hurricane Katrina or Rita get back into their homes as quickly and fairly as possible. This groundbreaking effort represents the largest single housing recovery program in U.S. history.
Through The Road Home, eligible homeowners may receive up to $150,000 in compensation for their losses to get them back into their homes. Homeowners have three compensation options:
- Stay in your home.
- Purchase another home in Louisiana.
- Sell your home and choose not to remain a homeowner in the State.
The Road Home program is taking applications from homeowners through July 31, 2007. There are three ways to apply – online, by mail, and over the phone. Households of all incomes are eligible to receive assistance.
Upon receipt of applications, homeowners are contacted by Road Home program staff to set up an appointment at a Road Home Housing Assistance Center. Choose from the options below or at the left for details about the program.

Abbeville was founded in 1843 and named after the founder's hometown in France. Here you'll find Cajun and traditional food in the area's 22-plus restaurants. From oyster bars to poboys the cuisine excels. Take an after lunch stroll downtown and visit the town square plus many shops featuring local artwork, antique or new furnishings and stylish clothing. Don't miss the local history museums, the Depot and Abbeville Cultural and Historical Alliance Center. There, you can find a book outlining our parish history to take home with you. If you like, there are local guided walking tours available in French and English for groups of ten or more. There's also Steen's Cane Syrup Mill, Abbey Theatre, Riviana Rice Mill, 100-year-old St. Mary Magdalene Church and adjacent cemetery and the Courthouse. It's the perfect spot to catch up on local politics being replayed by word of mouth underneath the giant oaks. You could say that's a dash of hot sauce in our perfectly seasoned culture. But wait. Your day's not over. You haven't played golf or gone birding yet. Well, we'll throw another dozen crabs in the pot because it looks like you're staying for dinner. |
